What should I do if the engine is flooded with water after wading in the car

Once the vehicle stalls in water, you must not try to ignite it again. Because you are in heavy rain or wading, you cannot judge what caused the stall, so the most reliable way is not to start the engine again. Generally, there are three situations in which the engine enters the water:

The first situation: After the vehicle is soaked in water, until it is towed back to the repair shop, the engine does not work. It has been started; in this case, the vehicle has only been watered once, and then towed to the repair shop. The engine has not been started in the middle, which basically will not cause irreversible damage to the engine. The main work is to damage the internal area of the engine. Water for cleaning, but the degree of cleanliness should be considered according to the situation. In more cases, the intake pipe and intake manifold should be removed, and the water inside should be blown dry using the compression space.

The second case: the vehicle is running in water, and the engine stalls due to water ingress; if your car is suffocated in water, most maintenance technicians will let you authorize them to disassemble the engine .

First of all, it is necessary to judge whether the connecting rod is deformed during this abnormal flameout. The distance from the two pistons formed at the same place to the upper edge of the cylinder can be compared through the measurement of the caliper. If there is a difference in the value between the two, the one with the larger value may be deformed by the connecting rod. Of course, it may also be the second Both of them have problems. This needs to be further confirmed by rotating the crankshaft to put the two pistons at the top dead center position and seeing if the edge of the piston is flush with the upper edge of the cylinder. After checking one by one, it is absolutely possible to determine which cylinder has the problem, so that the relevant accessories can be ordered. But often for maintenance engineers, in order to achieve better maintenance results, they advocate replacing all connecting rods and pistons.

The third situation: After a small amount of water enters the engine, the owner starts the engine without knowing it and drives for a certain distance. How to judge the damage of the engine? If the crankshaft cannot be turned with a wrench, it can be preliminarily judged that the connecting rod is seriously damaged. After disassembly, the engine block, connecting rod and piston should be replaced as a whole as appropriate. The specific detection situation is the same as the second situation.

It is suggested that when faced with the situation of water entering the engine, you must deal with it calmly. I hope that everyone should minimize travel in bad weather and try to avoid this situation.
